Description

Somewhat fun climbing on friable rock- tho the saving grace is that there are plenty of bolts. Crux is a long reach move several bolts from the top. Should have ended the route on the 2nd to last lead bolt. Debatable, in the beginning, if it would ever totally clean up, but seems to be heading there.

Location

Located just right of Love Sinks. Follows a grotty crack up the wall. 80 meter rope gets one lowered to the ground. 70 meter rope lowers one to the upper ledge with 3rd class down climb. Can be done with 60 meter rope but requires a double rap. Can also be done with 60 meter rope to the first pitch anchor of the route immediately right.

Protection

16 bolts to Mussy anchor.

Fun route, big holds. Will it clean up? Gets a fair bit of traffic. Belayers wear your helmets. Mar 9, 2015
The name is Makayla, not Makala. Dan Mcdevitt named it after his daughter. Oct 9, 2016

This is a great climb. The route is located immediately right of Love Stinks, and is 115 ft. long from the ground. A 70m rope works perfectly. The climb is well protected (perhaps over bolted for some), clean, with fun continuous movement, and long - all qualities of a great route. I found the anchor to be at the logical ending of the route. All said, I would recommend climbing this route.

On an unrelated note, I'm curious to see how the new guidebook covers the Banana Belt crag. The order of the routes appears to be Love Stinks, Makayla's, and then Pocket Dance (L to R). I'm curious where Butt Wipe and Rim Job went. Jan 21, 2018

Super fun with big holds most of the way but steep enough to be exciting. Great fun. Seems to be cleaning up pretty well. My belayer says I didn't send any grains down. Get on it! Oct 14, 2018

I thought this was an amazing warmup with big holds. Didn't feel especially chossy compared to others in the gorge. Jan 7, 2019
