Drop Out Left

5.11b R, Trad, 70 ft (21 m),  Avg: 2.6 from 7 votes
FA: unknown
California > Lake Tahoe > I-80 Corridor > Donner Summit > Snowshed Wall > E Face > 3. E Face Main

Description

Thin, technical, and slippery face start to hand crack. The old rating was a solid sandbag at .10d. Recommend stick-clipping the bolt, as a fall before clipping would be ugly - stick-clipping would also remove the "R" rating for the route. Referred to as "Drop Out" in the Carville guide and "Drop Out 2" in the newer guidebook.

Location

First route to the right of the obvious chimney (Rage Reduction).

Protection

1 bolt, gear to 3", anchors.

[Hide Comment] The bottom would be terrifying if you biff it. The landing would send you tumbling back down towards Farewell to Arms.

Still, with the stick clip it's actually fun! Slick moves off the ground to a long reach to gain the crack. Things stay interesting with a steep section that things to fingers. A short route, for sure, but fun, nonetheless. I'd think that the middle section is probably .11a/.11-. Aug 8, 2016

[Hide Comment] This is in the north tahoe guide as 11b/c R. After climbing it a few times (albeit TR solo) I definitely think it is harder than 10d and harder than the "drop out right" version of this route which is listed at 11a. Certainly would be a bold lead without the stick clip :) May 24, 2020
