Description

This could possibly be classified as a moderate fourth class scamper. Starts at the northeast corner and follows narrow ledges to the top of Indian Head Tower.

Location

Access to this area is from the top of Indian Head Buttress. YOu can get to it from a moderate hike up the north side of hill.

Protection

Could use some traditional pro. Has 2 anchors with chains at the top of this climb on the ledge just above access climb

If you head left up the hill on approach - you'll end up at the top of Indian Head, at a cliff that looks down at this area, with Indian head at a good 8' gap on the other side. To the left (south) is a small zig-zag trail that will take you down into that area. If you try to come directly from the bottom - you'll encounter a 30' slabby climb that is pretty easy (5.2) until the very top which proposes a bit of a challenge if you've never done it before, particularly with the thought of sliding back down the ~30' slab below.

The climb up to the top of Indian Head from the small cove is easy with good holds, and good ledges to stand on - easy to scramble up. There's a big wedge / boulder on top that you can sling and put pro in to set up anchors. To get down you can either down-climb, or if you'd prefer - have someone below set up an anchor on the trees across the gap and belay you down. May 15, 2017
