Description

Portrait in Flesh climbs directly up the center of the striking, vertical wall decorated with stunning green and gold streaks. The route is technical and fingery from start to finish and culminates with a bouldery, low-percentage crux that is literally within spitting distance of the chains.

The rock is perfect, the moves engaging, and the setting is spectacular.

Location

This is located on a short, striking wall directly above the Nomad Cave, but it is more visible from the left end of the Primo Wall. Portrait in Flesh is the middle of three routes, between Inner Gorilla and Mildage.

Protection

5 bolts, 2 BA.

This route was bolted and prepped by Taylor Roy, who moved away from the Front Range before he had a chance to send it. Thanks for the great work, Taylor! Nov 5, 2014

This routes packs a punch! It's mostly excellent 13- crimping, aside from the two or three HARD moves at the top that make it a serious testpiece for the canyon. Nice job on putting this thing down, Mike!

  • After sending this route, I still think it's an awesome route! The crux might come easier if you're taller, but linking that final move from the ground was brutal.

This route is incredible. The green and yellow lichen and rock quality are worth the extra little hike. I took Mohammad Jafari to this route, and he was able to send it 4th try on his first day on the route. He confirmed the grade of 14a. Oct 1, 2015

Thanks Ryan, that's good to know since this was my first FA at that grade. It's some of the best rock in CCC. Oct 7, 2015

Found a gri-gri up here the other day. If you lost it and know what color it is, let me know. I have it so that it won't get weathered anymore. Feb 15, 2016

This is a great little route, nice work, Mike! Cool little spot to hang out in the canyon as well. The finishing crux is strangely difficult on redpoint. Oct 22, 2016

The right-hand sidepull crimp in-between the first and second bolt broke today. Ironically, it left a very similar hold in its wake but maybe 5 inches higher. My buddy and I didn't think it changed the difficulty or the move too much. I'd be curious to see what others think. Mar 17, 2019
Anyone know what’s up with the bolted route directly right of this route with the red tape on the first hanger? 7 hours ago · Temporary Report
