Goosesteps

5.10b, Trad, 40 ft (12 m),  Avg: 2 from 3 votes
FA: 2014 Tom Lane
New York > Adirondacks > G: Indian Lake… > Crane Mountain > Upper S Corner Cliffs

Description

Slightly longer and more aesthetic than its sister route, Baby Steps, this line manages independence between that and On the Fence to its left.
Traverse along the foot ledge to just past a rounded, right-facing, right-leaning corner. Climb good knobs to a horizontal (the only trad gear needed goes here), then up past 3 bolts to the tree anchor on a brushy ledge.

Location

Begin at the extreme left end of the Jammer Wall ledge, same as Baby Steps. This route traverses 3m left along a foot ledge before heading up.

Protection

#2 C4 and 3 QDs.
There is a manky tree anchor at the top; you may want to bring add'l "leaver" gear to rappel. It is possible to scramble 4th class up and right to reach the top of the SCC.

[Hide Comment] You can lengthen this pitch if you downclimb about 15-20 ft off the left end of the Jammer ledge to a good stance with a vertical crack (I believe this crack is part of On The Fence; anchor the belayer here). The added climbing is knobby and fun; the crux at the bolts above is quite a jarring change. Jul 10, 2017
