Golden Eagle Closures in the Monument Area Feb-Aug Details

Description

A very fun, well bolted and clean route with a varied set of moves. The final moves to the anchors has a memorable finish.

Location

More or less in the middle of the climbing wall, you can identify this route by it climbing right on/beside a sharp arete in the middle of the route and the visible anchors from the ground.

Protection

10 bolts. 2 bolt anchor with chains.

I'm pretty sure Nathan's comment below is incorrect. The Safe Zone is still the route immediately left of the obvious pockety overhang of Mossy Tits. There is one to the right of MT, the right-trending 5.9. There are two routes to the left of TSZ, both appear to be very easy.

The "overhanging" moves described on the route immediately left of MT are easily and safely avoided by going to the left above the last bolt and then back right at the lip jugs to the anchor. 7 days ago
Confusion as to which route is "The Safe Zone", see the parent page for more discussion. Sep 5, 2016

There is now another route in between this route and Mossy Tits on the right. The new route is not in the Alan Watts Smith book. It looks hard, but we did not climb it. From the ground we could only count 9 bolts on The Safe Zone, but there was another one hidden up there.

There was a lot of lose / hollow-to-the-tap rock on this route, including big pieces a few feet wide. I don't know if it's actually dangerous -- I don't have enough experience -- but I tread lightly and had a great time. Apr 27, 2015
