Description

Silent Swells is a great addition to this (currently) quiet area in Rifle. The first crux hits at about the second bolt, where one must choose whether to use powerful underclings and a kneebar along the bolt line or a crimpy alternative a few feet to the right. Get a quick shake midway, then enter the fun, engaging, upper, crimpy crux. Once you hit the undercling near the last few bolts, take a breath, smile, and cruise up the easier terrain to the chains.

Location

This route sits just to the right of Fat Tongue.

Per Stephen Felker: this route is third from the right.

Protection

This route is just so good! Fantastic movement to tiny credit card holds off the ground, deadpoint to a decent ear, and mini-mantel over to rest on the stairstep ledge. High step layback and gaston your way into the undercling. Traverse on interesting foot options along the undercling system, while considering a potentially less-than-pleasant fall consequence till you clip from the better of the underclings or have reached the jug at the next bolt. Find a way to rest. Then the crux - pull onto a shitty, lumpy spot on the slopey sidepull, grab the slopey pyramid thing, launch thankfully to another blessed credit card, and jack your R foot to a high step for more exceptionally pleasant movement and celebrating, bc you’d really have to try hard to pitch off after that. So fun! Sep 7, 2018
