Access Notes Details
CRAGS and the Access Fund are beginning new projects to help improve access to Donner Summit. You can communicate access issues directly at CRAGS’ Donner Summit page norcalcrags.org/crags/donner/. In 2014, the Truckee Donner Land Trust and the Access Fund jointly launched the Save Donner Climbing campaign. The following year, it purchased formerly private land for public conservation and access, which includes the Black Wall and other nearby cliffs.
DescriptionBegin below a roof with a ledge to the right about head level. Work face holds and a finger crack (pro) to gain the ledge. Move over the roof on good holds up to another ledge with a striking finger crack that looks like the Grim Reaper's Sickle. Climb this clean crack to an arête and continue up the slab to the anchors located left of a short corner.
This climb pros well and is ideal for the novice trad leader.
LocationThe start is located up the talus and broken ledges a few hundred feet north of Day Hike. Look for the Sickle-like crack on a green lichened face half way up the cliff. To deproach, rap back down to the lowest ledge and scramble down the talus to terra firma.
See the PCT - middle topo for location details.
