Description

Hard Nut is the thin crack that runs up the overhanging face between Socrates Downfall and Hemlock. It can be aided on small nuts and cams, no special gear is required. The placements are pretty easy, probably C1, but the rock is the usual problematic Great Falls stuff. Lead at your own risk. Chalk on the route indicates people have tried to free it.

Location

The thin, curving crack that runs up the overhanging wall between the Socrates and Hemlock corners.

Protection

Small nuts and cams. Offset nuts are useful.

I worked on freeing this route back in 2009. After a few sessions I managed to do all the moves free but had to hang in the middle. Probably goes free at 5.13a/b or V5 into another V5 Jun 16, 2014
