Gary Roach described the Crystal Couloir as, "(a) steep route on the south side of Evans' northwest face. It is a testpiece for skiers...", the couloir can be skied from the west shoulder of Evans down to the Summit Lake parking lot.

When the Mount Evans Road is open Memorial Day weekend, this route can be done car to car from downtown Denver in 8 hours or less. It can also be approached by cycle, road, and trail running shoes.

From Summit Lake, the Crystal is a narrowing couloir below Evans' northwest face--just to the right of The Snave. It receives morning shade and will remain firmer earlier in the day than other Evans' couloirs that recceive early morning sun.

Crampons and ice axe.
