Seasonal Closures Details

Description

Start at a left-facing flake on top of the 5th class approach wall. Climb the flake to a textured wall with sparse protection, then ascend more left-facing flakes to a gnarled tree. There is a two bolt anchor here.

Continue up and left across a well-pocketed face, with few opportunities for protection, into a VERY TIGHT squeeze chimney. I'm a 32" waist and had to take my rack off and hang it between my legs to fit through. It was still pretty tight.

Location

This is very low on the West Ridge. Take the Allosaur rappels down.

Protection

Small to medium size cams. I was able to get a #4 Camalot placement in on pitch 2.

I followed Gregger on the route and had to take my hearing aids out to get through the final squeeze. With my helmet off and ears touching the wall, I was afraid they would fall out.

As for the chimney at the end - climbing through the cave requires zero chimney/climbing moves but one spelunking move. Wiggling through the pinch would definitely be impossible for a climber with a large chest or hips. May 5, 2017
