[Hide Comment] The canyon got significant rain a couple of days before you decided to climb on this boulder. I suspect the recent moisture played a major factor in why the hold broke. If you did not know, climbing on sandstone after it has rained is bad practice, dangerous and selfish. If you did already know this, why did you choose to climb and risk damaging the rock? This incident and your comment on maybe using a metal brush on another boulder in the canyon recently do not reflect well on your climbing acumen. Please make yourself more knowledgeable on how and when to climb on sandstone if you plan on continuing to climb here. May 1, 2023

[Hide Comment] You should only use a regular boar hair brush on sandstone. NEVER use a metal brush on sandstone. A google search on this will give you an idea on where the climbing community stands on this. A metal brush will weaken the patina and chip the rock which is frowned upon in every community now.

I am a local and have been climbing in the canyon for almost 15 years now and because of that I think I have a good idea of the quality of the rock out there. Because of the quality, more care should be taken on when and how you should climb on it. The rock here is so porous that I believe you should wait multiple days to even a week before climbing after a good rain. The park closed the canyon to all hiking the day before you climbed because of all of the rain the area got. Your actions have consequences for all of us who enjoy climbing here and I felt the need to express my opinion in an effort to help conserve what we have here. Please act more conscientiously on when and how you climb and don't just blame it on the place being a choss pile. We all make mistakes. Every climber needs to strive to be better stewards of the crags we use. May 4, 2023
