Deceivious

FA: Dan Caldwell, Howie Fiensilber
N Carolina > 3. Piedmont Region > Cooks Wall > Cookbook > Emla area

Description

Deceivious is exactly that. The start is very awkward and deceptive but this is a high quality route and one of the best choices to get your first good pump of the day.

At the second bolt, traverse right around the awkward triangle feature. It is easiest to move over top of it, although climbing under and around it is also possible. Thin face climbing leads to the crux. Traverse left through a couple powerful moves, then wade through a sea of jugs and a strong pump to the anchors.

Location

This is the first route you come to at the end the trail. It can be belayed from the ground or from the ledge. Farthest sport route to the right on that face.

Protection

Sport route.

[Hide Comment] Deceivious is now reequipped and ready for action. Neil Rankin installed the first 3 bolts, while Dennis Buice installed the remaining 5 and I relocated the anchors (provided courtesy of Climb Tech) to the top of the cliff vs their original 3/4 height placement for maximum exposure up the jug riddled finish. Several loose flakes were also removed making the route safer and movement more aesthetically pleasing. This classic is now ready to rumble. May 3, 2021
