Description

This ferrata is a nice introduction to via ferratas. Easy climbing along cables. Exposure is moderate with steep gullys dropping from the path. You move between pinnacles as you climb towards Santer Pass where the small Alberto Rifugio is located. Beautiful panoramic views can be had at Santer Pass with the Valolet Towers nearby. You can reverse the route back to the rifugio or continue around Catinaccio. From the start of the ferrata to Santer Pass takes 1 1/2-2 hours. If you continue around Catinaccio, you will pass the Vajolet Towers and continue down towards the Vajolet Rifugio. Just before you reach the Vajolet Rifugio there is a small unmarked but distinct trail heading right, under the Catinaccio buttress taking you around and connecting with path 541 to Passo Coronelle which takes you back to the Rifugio Coronelle. This loop will take 5-6 hours depending on how many awesome pictures you take.

Location

Start directly above the Kolner Hütte/ Fronza de Coronelle Rifugio. You can access this rifugio from the Laurin chair lift or the Paolina chair lift and walking 1 hr on easy traversing trail. Follow path 542 up from rifugio.

[Hide Comment] The Rifugio in the pic is Rifugio SantnerPass, which was recently reopened after having been closed for some time and is located at the top of the Pass. Rifugio Alberto is on the other side of the Pass on the way down to Rifugio Vajolet. The Santer Pass Via Ferrata is rated Moderate by the Italian Alpine Club. There are other Via Ferratas in the Catinaccio Group that are rated Easy. The area is spectacular. Mar 29, 2022
