FA: EFR,JSt,Clay Mansfield,'13
Arizona > Southern Arizona > Mt Lemmon (Sant… > Mt Lemmon (Cata… > 7 - Upper Highway > Reef of Rocks > Aegir

Description

This is the preferred first pitch of Reef Break. Tricky moves in the bolted corner lead to really fun flake climbing that reminds one of Yosemite. When the flakes end there is a great finish.

Location

Traverse the main ledge system to Aegir crossing the gully. This route starts below a white guano stain in a shallow corner that leads to good flakes.

Protection

Bolts and doubles from purple Camalot to Blue

[Hide Comment] Great fun! The flake is wild and protects well. Depending on what you are climbing at the Reef this could be a good warmup. The bolted section down low is just as interesting as the flake. Sep 4, 2013

[Hide Comment] I'd recommend this to anyone whose a solid sport climber and a new trad climber. The 5.10c slab crux is bolted and the second half is well protected 5.8/5.9. It's not exactly a sketch-fest by an standard and you'll have fun jug hauling the flake. For what it's worth, much like everything else at the reef this would be a absolute classic if it were lower on the mountain. Jul 18, 2021
