The route is 2nd class, or easy snow, 12.5 miles rt.
From the Devils Lake campground trailhead, follow the signed,
South Climb Trail. Self issue permit at the start.
The trail makes its way through loose volcanic scree, to the summit.

Northwest Forest Pass required.

Follow the well worn trail.

none, crampons and axe if there is snow.

a hike to the summit. im pretty sure some of the people i saw climbing it were ultra-runner moms and dads doing it in running shoes in as fast of a time possilbe before they pick up their kids from soccer practice (good for them because it is loose and steep at points). but even if your visiting bend for a weekend this is an easy one to get to and do and has an amazing view. I did it last year in running shoes. had a friend do it the same weekend a year later and used snow shoes so plan accordingly Aug 15, 2016
