Description

The Falcons Guide described it as a wretched flaring five inch crack. I disagree and thought it was very enjoyable. Start at the two finger cracks and continue up the fist to off fist sized crack for about five more feet until you come to a ledge. Climb the corner to your left to the top. The guide books rate this as 5.9+, I would give it more like a 5.9 or 5.8+.

ADDENDUM: part of this route apparently was vandalized/toppled.  See comments below.

A few hand fist and finger sized cams will do the job.

[Hide Comment] I guess since nobody has updated this.. Devils chair has fallen over. I heard rumor of vandalism, but I can't verify that. It may well have been natural erosion. I knew this when I posted the side view picture on the main page from the 70's. Dec 20, 2014

[Hide Comment] It did fall. We may never know for sure why? Feb 17, 2015
[Hide Comment] Yes, the destruction of the Devil's Chair was an act of vandalism as determined by the MN DNR. There was evidence that hydraulic jack(s) were used to leverage the blocks from their perch.

[Hide Comment] The admins are not planning to delete this historical route, tragic as it is that the top was trundled. Jun 3, 2019

[Hide Comment] What do you mean no longer exist. I know the top was vandalized or fell off somehow but the last time I was there routes still existed on this feature. Unless the whole thing fell over into the river?

3 ticks reported April of 2019. No way the whole feature is gone. Get out there and climb it.
Fun challenging climb. Jun 3, 2019

[Hide Comment] Yes, the entire formation was not toppled. My comment was to ask people not to submit "route improvements" that were just to delete the route, even if the top of it was toppled. Jun 3, 2019

[Hide Comment] I just read this update. Very discouraging. People get perverse enjoyment from senseless destructive acts.
I passed through Interstate Park in 1980 and climbed for two days. I remember doing the Chair. Very unique formation and I can't believe that it is damaged. Jul 19, 2023
