Traffic Avoidance aka Left of Scottish Gully

WI2-3, Trad, Ice, 170 ft (52 m), 2 pitches, Avg: 1.7 from 11 votes
FA: unknown
Colorado > CO Ice & Mixed > Hoosier Pass/Lincoln…

Description

Mal described it well enough. It's an ever changing area as the season progresses, getting fatter and more expansive. So, it's more of an area than a named route. More pillars form as the season allows, so it's quite different each time you go back.

What's good? It's not as crowded as routes to the right... a good place to kill some time when the other routes are clogged up. Short pillars and curtains form quite left in a good years.

So, this is uncrowded short pillars and slabs.

Location

You can see ramps and pillars left of Scottish Gully. Head over there and pick a line. The routes keep appearing further left as the season progresses on the lower tiers and right on the upper tier. Traverse over to the top tier and climb as many pillars as you wish.

Rap down off anchors/trees.

Protection

Screws. There are currently 3 or 4 anchors on various trees.

Just some places I went up this season.

Tier A is mostly slabs, 60-100 feet.

Tier B is steep at first, maybe 60'.

Tier C has the 30' pillar(s). You can climb almost anywhere.

[Hide Comment] This area is referenced as "Traffic Avoidance" in the guidebook. With the abundant water supply;) last season, this place formed up very well. Jun 20, 2013
