Location

This boulder is located on the hillside overlooking the Monkey Boy area. A trail leads up the hill directly to the boulder

Description

One of the best boulder problems I have ever seen. One of the best, if not THE best boulder problem in Moe's Valley.

Start on lowest, crimpy rail. Go up and left through perfect slopers with a powerful heel hook on a slightly overhanging face.

Protection

A couple of pads and a spotter.

[Hide Comment] Not really sure why so many people do the left heel/toe hook thing and then bump their left hand. Seems significantly harder than using the right heel and just being able to do a chill reach up to the first jug/crimp. Jan 25, 2021

[Hide Comment] Owen, isn't that what makes climbing fun? beta options work differently depending on the person and their strengths. No need to sandbag everyone else though ;) Jan 28, 2021

[Hide Comment] I think the wording of my comment failed to reflect what I meant. I believe Gription is an amazing problem, easily 5 stars. However when the original V9 beta (I’m assuming the left heel/toe is the beta used on the FA) is broken the problem is no longer V9. Just like if a hold broke creating a jug where the crux was making the problem significantly easier it would be wrong to claim the grade hadn’t changed. People can climb a problem however they feel, and if they want to use the original beta, it seems fair to call it a V9. I just personally felt that the way I sent it (and how I’ve seen many other people send it) it didn’t seem reasonable to call it V9. My intention isn’t to sandbag this problem, I’m just being realistic knowing that I’ve never sent V9 and I’m not strong enough for a V9 to feel as easy as Gription did. Also the beta I used wasn’t something only really tall people can do, from the videos that I’ve watched it seems like a wide range of heights and body types have also sent it the same way I did. [Hide Comment] No worries Owen, just trying to bring some perspective. For what its worth, this problem took me longer than comparable grades in moes as well as the fact that for the life of me I couldn't send the way you described and had to use the left heel beta. Maybe don't sell yourself short grade wise. Jan 28, 2021
