Description

Volcanic Eruption is nestled on the face between Dol Guldur and Cat Crack. Not the most obvious line, but a damn good rock climb nonetheless. Moderate climbing leads to a delicate and reachy V5/6 crux roughly 25 feet up. Get to a decent rest at the first “roof”, and then enjoy ~ 75 feet of sustained traprock technical goodness along a mix of cracks and edges. -Topo Gigio

Could be one of the best mixed lines in New England if it had fixed protection on the lower half. It was recently lead (as ugly as it sounds) with a static rope hanging from the top with fixed loops to clip into for protection for the lower section. The upper section after the rest was lead on gear. It is unfortunate it had to be led this way, but desperate times called for desperate measures. Oct 13, 2016
This is an amazing route that feels long when compared to a lot of the other pitches in the state. Jun 1, 2013

Looks fantastic. It is a shame that a classic face climb goes unlead. Hey CT, get your head out of your ass! Apr 7, 2013

This was lead a few times when it had bolts (for about a day), no? I had my first experience of Nichols while I was on this on TR. He was around the corner getting into a scuffle with a scottish gentleman. K went down and called the police. They ended up arresting Ken instead, lol.

I coulld be mixing this up with Toxic Shock. Mar 1, 2013
