V5, Boulder,  Avg: 3.7 from 32 votes
FA: unknown
New York > Adirondacks > K: Northern Region > Mckenzie Pond B… > First Set > Front Boulder

Description

Stand start at the crimpy bulge with a right facing flake at 6 feet. Climb up the flake to the blunt arete of the Descent Slab and top out on the right facing slab above that.

Location

To the left of the weird tree growing over the lip of the boulder

Protection

one or two pads since a fall off the top out could land you pretty far back off the boulder

[Hide Comment] Sooo tempting to grab that tree at the top ha. Worth the commitment though. May 2, 2015
[Hide Comment] What the hell is a "slobadon" and why is there one at McKenzie Pond?

While familiar with the route, where did "slobadon" emerge?

Is it a dynosaur? Oct 17, 2015

[Hide Comment] I always assumed it referred to Slobodan Milosevic and that the spelling was a mistake. If you don't know who he is, you should google him. It makes sense since he was in the news a lot right around when this area was seeing its big wave of development. Oct 17, 2015

[Hide Comment] I'm not familiar with where slobodan came from, but I do know that the old Adirondack Rock refers to this as "slobodan AKA The Eastman problem" and I know some guys who still refer to this as the Eastman problem. Nov 3, 2015

[Hide Comment] Todd, Slabadon aka Eastman problem, was renamed by a group of climbers who came up to McKenzie in the late 90's early 2000's. They renamed many boulder problem names because they didn't have access to any information, or they thought. they did get in touch with Chris H., and Chris gave them the original names but they still used their new names in their New England bouldering guide.
Hope all is well. cheers, Bronson May 15, 2017

[Hide Comment] Feet are so so polished at the start, make sure to clean your shoes off before hopping on!

Anyway, I really wish a climb as cool as this one was named after the first ascensionist, who made many important contributions to the area, instead of a genocidal war criminal. "The Eastman Problem" just has such a good old school ring to it too. Would be nice if it at least got an AKA in the title for this page... Sep 18, 2022
