An aptly named and classic route.

A boulder problem start guards the arete proper, once at the second bolt the climb takes on its true character and the moves to the third bolt provide a taste (albeit on good holds) of what is to come. The moves past bolts three, four, and five provide exciting and tenuous laying-away on the edge of the arete with somewhat grainy footholds, but somehow the clips always go well.

Pull up onto a ledge, clip the last bolt and surmount the final step to a wonderful view down the valley to the lake.

If this were at HVP there would be a line to climb this one.

The left edge of the right tower, rather obvious.

6 bolts and a chain anchor.

If the rock was clean I'd give it four stars.

It's possible to "cheat" the crux by using big flakes around and chevaling the edge to the left, but this seems less graceful. Oct 10, 2011
