Private Land Details
Although Tucumcari Mountain is technically private land, most of the best climbing is found on the Eastern side which is owned by a cattle company and I have never seen anyone asked to leave.
DescriptionShort problem; once you find your way to the boulder, look to the left side for the obvious starting hold. There's a small crimpy pinch next to it that is the left hand starting hold. From there move up and left to find the pocket, and then the crux: a piece of shit slopey pinch. Once you've stuck that, find the finishing jug over to the right and top it out.
Update: The finishing jug has broken, but the boulder can still be topped out using a slab above the pinch. May affect the grade.
LocationFrom the parking area at the base of the mountain take the road up to the first switchback. You'll see another parking area with a bunch of broken glass and bullet casings and beer cans. Walk about 50 feet down to the dry river bed and you'll see the large boulder. Find the side with the chalky holds and you're good to go!
