The Arraignment

FA: Bill Boyle 6/1995
Utah > Central Utah > Maple Canyon > Maple Canyon Rd > Bridge Area

Description

Long and steep, The Arraignment is a thin and tricky route with few rests and hard to decipher holds. Pumpy and relentless, this is a good test of endurance and patience.

Still a bit frail, the direct line through the bolts is solid. Not too bad.

Location

This is the left-most route of three at the Bridge Area proper. It is the direct left neighbor of New Fandango. Find the small bridge and walk down the quick trail over a boulder to the base of the three lines.

Protection

Ten quickdraws.

[Hide Comment] This would not be a bad route if not so filthy. The climbing is interesting, even good, but the entire rig is just coated with fine sand. More techy than pumpy. Please climb this so that it cleans up! Jun 24, 2014

[Hide Comment] What the gentleman from ABQ said, but I'll go one step further and say that it's pretty loose in some spots too. I believe they call it 11A in the book and now 11C sounds more right. Hold attrition perhaps? I pelted my belayer with grit and a few small holds the whole way up it.

First bolt is spinning with the hanger oriented very poorly and it's delicate movement on 3" of sand to get the second bolt which also doesn't inspire confidence.

The top has a couple of fun airy moves with bolts way below you but unless the sandy adventure getting there doesn't leave you at all chafed, it's kind of hard to enjoy at that point. Jun 29, 2018
