Description

For a second pitch of Duchess the obvious choice is the right chimney. Another option is the crack one over to the left: It starts as a wide pod, then narrows down to fist size. Getting out of the pod onto the next small ledge is the crux.

3" or 4" for the wide part?

Some guidebooks show this as a continuation of the moderate Duchess routes below. It is indeed 5.10! Apr 16, 2012
I did the variation on the left, going up thru the overhanging pod that narrows to a crack. I, too, made the mistake of thinking I was doing the 5.6 middle Duchess line, and cursing the sandbagging! Took a big winger. I think it is a 10 for sure by J-Tree ratings. Took me several tries, but I got it. Fun! May 30, 2015
