Hired Gun

5.10a, Sport, 90 ft,  Avg: 1.9 from 40 votes
FA: Kevin Pogue, Brad Shilling, 2003
Idaho > S Idaho > City of Rocks > Drilling Fields > Drilling Fields

Some easy climbing left of the first bolts takes you to an overhang. A reachy pull and high step will get you onto the easy slab, which gets steeper and thinner towards the top. Shorter climbers will have a hard time a the crux bulge. It might be possible to skirt it by going WAY right and then back left to the bolt line.

Follow the ledge system right from Drilling Fields to a belay bolt. The route climbs up and right from here.

13 bolts + anchors.

[Hide Comment] The grade varies from 10a to impossible depending on height and sun. If you're 5'5" and do it in the sun, well, you probably won't do it. The only hard move is easily aided if you want to enjoy the awesome face above. Sep 26, 2016

[Hide Comment] Every route at the city is sun-dependent. I politely disagree with the height comment by Boissal, as I'm barely 5'2" and think 10a is an appropriate rating for this climb. Jun 18, 2018
[Hide Comment] Be careful, a 70m rope is needed to lower. Make sure you have a stopper knot. Super fun route though Nov 19, 2018

[Hide Comment] Not worth climbing. Reachy start on shitty rock leads to an overbolted staircase to a few maybe 5.9 moves before another staircase to the anchor. Tons of rope drag and stupid belay spot too 5 days ago
