Description

Start: Center face of Lost Blossom buttress.

Diagonal over a small overhang, climb horizontals to a stance 30' off the ground. Work past a small roof (crux) and continue up the slabby face above, following thin cracks. Trend right and finish on the headwall above.

Variation: 5.8
Step right from the crux and climb a right-facing flake with knobby holds. Merge into the headwall above.

  • *Note, it is possible to pull the small roof and then trend right across a small alcove to do the original and the variation all at once, albeit with a little rope drag.

Location

Starts about 15' right of Take No Mess.

Protection

Standard rack; anchors up top

I'm gonna call this one of the best 8s at The TWall....yeah, I said it. Great stuff to be climbed way left and way right of the most popular areas...in all grades/styles...and there's rarely anyone in the way. Shhh. Apr 6, 2011
Dean Halfacre and I were the 'Never On Sunday' team, I think in 1990-something... the old guidebook will have to come out of deep storage to figure this out more exactly. Anybody heard from Dean lately? Anyhow I like the name Mantis best of all, it's a good one for stalking up a long series of mantles. And Capital Assets?...let's leave the money out of this. OK, exhumed the old guidebook. Dean and I did this in February 1997. Avoiding the weekend crowds, hence the name. One star. Oct 29, 2014
