[Hide Comment] Why does this 1985 line have only "one" vote? Added bolts? What changed? Thanks. Apr 6, 2019

[Hide Comment] In the Kroll guidebook, Herb Laeger mentions the origin of the name: "One night, on the long drive from LA, as Eve, my black cat Panther, and I rounded a curve on the winding road to the reservoir, there in the headlights were three strange creatures that I had never seen before. We stopped and watched them for a minute or so before they scurried off into the forest. They looked like small beavers without the flat tail. I later searched them out in a book on Sierra mammals. They are called "mountain boomers" and have the scientific name of "Aplodontia". Never again have I seen one. Hence the moniker for the climb "Aplodontia" on Power Dome. It seemed fitting to spread the name around in hopes that others might be curious as to what the hell was an Aplodontia!" Aug 11, 2022
