Pullout Crack

5.8, Trad, 40 ft (12 m),  Avg: 2.4 from 9 votes
FA: Clay Meier
Alaska > Southeastern Al… > Skagway > Black Lakes Crag

Description

This is a crack climb in a dihedral. The climb finishes at a large sloping ledge with a bolted anchor.

Location

This route is actually located just up the road from the black lakes. Pass the lakes and continue up the hill on the highway. Park at the next large pullout on the right. The climb is on the Left side of the road (if you are going up the pass). It looks like a splitter finger crack but is actually mostly hands. The anchor is very hard to spot from the ground.

Protection

Standard rack.

[Hide Comment] Very fun, short route. Bring something to clean out the webs. Took my first trad fall in awhile on this. The crux is short with an amazing finger lock and great pro (purple C4 right at the waist) but the feet are slippery and face holds to the right draw you in. Placed nothing bigger than a #2, placed two #1s and two #0.5s, maybe a 0.4 and 0.75 as well, can't remember.

Also, this route now has a bolted anchor for lower off. Aug 22, 2023
