Description

Get your wits together for this cool sandbag. Start on top of a block slightly downhill and to the right of Flappin' in the Breeze. Smear your way up a short, unprotected slab to gain the roof/flake system, traverse it about 80 feet to the right, then bust onto the face at a white streak using good holds. Cruise up the relatively unprotected face for ~50 feet to the rappel anchor.

Location

On the far right side of the Flakeview area - it's hard to miss this 100 ft horizontal roof/flake system.

Protection

Mostly smaller cams, but there are some important placements for big ones as well.

[Hide Comment] Best way to get to Sugaree. Makes a nice burly and heady link-up. Have your head on straight for both. Jan 5, 2016
[Hide Comment] Heads up on the anchor. I was out there yesterday 2/5/2017 and retrieved a melted cord from the rap tree. (recent fire damage) The tree was green and healthy, however it did appear to have slight burn damage showing on some of its protruding roots. I advise building a gear anchor down left of the tree in the crack. It may also be advisable to install rap bolts in the future. Feb 7, 2017

[Hide Comment] Complete sandbag. This thing is like 10+ and additionally it's R/X due to the 50ft unprotected runout to the anchor, with a heinous slab move at the very top. There is groundfall potential on that. Wild, interesting pitch. Feb 10, 2019

[Hide Comment] Russ, being the stand up gentleman that he is, left fresh cord on the anchor tree. I did the pitch again a few weeks later and it appears a rodent had chewed through much of it. I left a new piece of webbing, but the ledge may benefit from a bolted anchor. The tree is looking a little haggard after the fire. Mar 21, 2019

[Hide Comment] The cord at the anchor has been chewed on by rodents and is currently unsafe. If I had brought extra cord with me I would have replaced it. Plus one for a bolted anchor. The tree is still in decent shape, but it doesn't look very healthy. Nov 18, 2019

[Hide Comment] Forrester you have a whole bunch of bolts. Why dont you put an anchor in? You have at least 4 sets of rings... Nov 18, 2019

[Hide Comment] I think I stayed in the crack for too long before going up. I ended up having to traverse about 30 feet to the left once I spotted the rap station.
The cordage is still in bad shape, wish I'd read the comments beforehand as I would have brought some webbing with me. I re-tied the cord in a way that makes it so there's still two strands going around the tree, but only one of them is visibly damaged rather than both as it was before. Whoever goes up next should bring something to replace it with. May 13, 2020
