Arizona > Southern Arizona > Mt Lemmon (Sant… > Mt Lemmon (Cata… > 7 - Upper Highway > Raycreation Area > Lower Wall

Description

Short but fun sport line on the far right side of the lower wall.

Of note, Josie Becker put in a lot of work bolting the majority of this climb, so many thanks to her for her efforts!

Climb tricky moves past three bolts to a ledge under a large overhanging block. A short section of very powerful, fun moves lead up the overhanging arete and over the right side at the top.

Location

Overhanging arete covered with alligator plates on the far right side of the lower wall.

Protection

6 bolts, clip-and-lower anchors

Josie had a lot of fun drilling this route - here she is being lowered after a lot of hard work on the upper section. :)

Geir working the route. This climb is short and hard. Just what a NILF needs.

[Hide Comment] Fun route! Perfect for my complete lack of endurance after a winter climbing 40 foot routes in Austin.

Anyone getting on this soon might want to consider bringing a wrench - three or four of the six bolts had very loose nuts, as did both the anchor bolts. I hand tightened them as much as I could, but I'm sure they'll loosen again. Unfortunately I'm just passing through town so I won't have a chance to get up on it again with a wrench.

Also not sure if this is of concern: the fourth bolt (the first one in the bulge above the ledge) had some hairline cracks in the rock running towards it. A bit unnerving as the next clip is the only tough one on the route. Not sure if this is something to be concerned about on the rock here, but a local more knowledgeable might want to consider taking a look. May 21, 2021
[Hide Comment] Bolts are fixed...loctite & REALLY tightened them. I found myself to be quite critical of the whole bolting job when tightening the bolts today...I've learned a lot climbing with jbak for over a decade :)! Jun 10, 2021
