Description

Green Grenade is a boulder problem climb with an easy start that leads to a tough section pulling the subtle bulge. The movement is quite good, but unfortunately the rock is not very good.

Easy stemming between suspect blocks leads to an easy crack. Follow this to a stance below the bulge, where the rock improves considerably. Dynamic moves along the trembling detached flake lead to the anchor.

Location

It is about 50 feet right of "Purple Toenails", climbing over a slight bulge ~30 feet up.

Protection

Bolts to 2BA. The climb is not runout. The PG-13 rating is given because of the relatively large amount of potentially life-threatening loose rock.

I found no life threatening rock on this route. It might be a little dirty from lack of traffic but PG-13, I don' think so. Apr 1, 2010

Yeah, I kind of agree. Shelf limestone is a little funky like that - sometimes stuff that looks like it should be loose is pretty solid. Caution is always best, but I certainly enjoyed the route and didn't feel there was much concern.

By the way - the two moves through that bulge are very cool. Drop-knee followed by a lockoff on left and right up to a solid hold. Seemed to be around 10c/d range. Fun route. Mar 4, 2012

The rock on this route appears riddled with cracks, especially up to about the 3rd bolt. My wife busted off a 25-30 pound hunk of rock today, and I almost took it on the head. Wear your helmets, kids!

Didn't find any loose rock, thankfully. Also, not really PG-13... it was all very well-protected. Very fun crux/route. Jan 20, 2014
