Barfly Blues

5.9, Sport, 70 ft (21 m),  Avg: 2.7 from 58 votes
FA: Bryan Pletta and Mark Thomas
New Mexico > Socorro Area > Box Climbing Areas > Southern Box areas > Alcohol Wall South

Description

Climb up the small detached formation on the left side of the large break in the wall. Clip the second bolt, then move up and right past an awkward move below the third bolt. I had to hump the wall while reaching blindly to the right but I'm sure there's an easier way to do this. From there its straight forward climbing on great rock to a small bulge below the chains. One of the longest moderates at Socorro. Well worth a climb.

Location

Starts left of the large split in Alcohol Wall South. Located between Spinal Spasms and Meat Market.

Protection

7 bolts, 2 bolt anchor

[Hide Comment] Pretty sure this starts on the right side of the big split in the wall, not the left. Was confused trying to find it. Thought it was a bit run out in spots but not bad if you're solid and can climb thoughtfully. Mar 9, 2017

Pretty sure that's not correct. The first bolt is on the finlike arete in the deep split, then steps right to the face. If you start right of the big split I think you're on a 10c that eventually merges with this line. Mar 16, 2017
