Grotto and Lookout closed Details

Description

Climb up the left edge of the broad orange and black buttress on the vegetated terrace (Upper Tier) above the Grotto and west of the Java Wall. Climb the left most route, on steep featured rock, passing interesting pockets along the edge of the buttress to a final steep bulge. "Welcome to Echo" is sustained and pumpy from the bottom to the top. There is no distinct crux.

Location

Located on The Upper Tier, scramble up the gully left of the arete of "Bushed Coyote." Short, but rather unpleasant.

Protection

5 bolts to chain anchors.

Tyler....if you would read the previous post of Feb. 24, 2010 you'll see an explanation regarding the location of " Welcome to Echo" on The Upper Tier. Good on you if you can find it on the Left Flank. Dec 28, 2012

According to Louie Anderson's guide book this climb is on Left Flank. Oct 8, 2011

"Welcome To Echo Cliffs" and "Reverb" are listed at the Left Flank in the 2003 guidebook by Louie Anderson, but at the time there were no other climbs on The Upper Tier, so these routes were listed with those in the Left Flank. With the subsequent establishment of nine more climbs on the cliff band above The Grotto, adjacent to "Welcome To Echo" & "Reverb," this area was dubbed "The Upper Tier," as this is a distinct area separate from the Left Flank, as you probably discovered. Fun climb with good holds most of the way. The problem is that there are several "decoy" holds on this route that look good from below but end up being nothing. The route can get pumpy while searching around for the correct holds. Feb 1, 2010
