Description
One of the most popular and easier routes on the mountain. From the Kawaguchiko fifth station, get a trail map, they are free and it can be am important tool for getting back to Kawaguchiko. Follow the hoards of people going up a gravel road, enjoy the shade, it is the only section with it. You will stay right and traverst the mountain, through tunnels, to a viewpoint where the approach meets the Yoshida trail. Here you begin the ascent. It is pretty hard to get lost on the way up. The trail is grated and much of it has barriers and cables. You will go through many stations as the trail gets steeper. Also, as it gets steeper, the path gets more narrow, and there are often traffic jams (yes, there are that many people on this route). Be courteous, you can go around them much of the time, outside the track. After the last Eighth station, it is a 3 minute jaunt to the summit, where stands a Torii gate you may walk through. The trail down starts just below this***IMPORTANT, The descent trail is shared by two routes Yoshida (your trail) and Subashiri route. at the 6th station, you must rejoin the regular Yoshida route on the left side (descending) of the hut. The obvious trail goes to Subashiri 5th station (BAD NEWS). This is a common mistake made by foreigners. If you do end up at a different fifth station than the one you started at, you are looking at a $200 Taxi, or hike back up several hours and back down the correct route.

Protection
Cotton is rotten, exclude it from your Fuji-san trip.
Min: Gore-tex (or equiv.) full including pants; toque (warm hat); gloves; footwear with good traction (pref. waterproof); extra socks. SUN PRO>shorts and breezy longsleave (Nylon), sun hat and sunscreen. There is no shade during the day.
