In The Buff

5.7+, Sport, 50 ft (15 m),  Avg: 2.4 from 12 votes
FA: "Buffalo" Bob Starnsky and Ed Palen
New York > Adirondacks > G: Indian Lake… > Snowy Mt

Description

A good intro to the fun, featured rock at Snowy.

Protection

Bolts to rap hangers. A 4 inch cam will provide an anchor at the base to keep your belayer from taking the 300 ft slide down the lower slabs. Note - this is NOT the 4 inch cam placement that Lawyer recommends for the route Redneck on a Rope, but there's no need to bring two, as RoaR climbs directly above a clump of trees that secure the belayer.

[Hide Comment] Can you clarify the 4" Cam comment? Do you mean that this is not the same route requiring the 4" Cam as suggested by Lawyer in the new ADK guidebook, or the same placement for the Cam? Aug 21, 2009

[Hide Comment] If you brought a big cam for Redneck, you can use it for this route as well. Aug 22, 2009

[Hide Comment] Mike is referring to a horizontal crack located at your feet on the start of this route that serves as the only belay anchor. If you do not have that established for an anchor and you came off before clipping the first bolt, you and your belayer would be in for a long ride (flight?). As I said on the first page, the belay ledge is sloping and the grass is slippery. Jan 8, 2011
