Gate Buttress Area Recreational Lease: Climbs on Church Buttress above vault remain closed Details

Description

Start up crack/slab to first bolt.
Climb straight up on a steepish face, then pull on to and finish up the tricky arete.
70m rope is helpfull, a 60m will leave an easy 10ft downclimb.

Location

At the very south end of The Keel.
Starts at crack right of Spotted Fever.
You walk right by it when heading up to the Coffin.

Protection

Bolts.
Hand size cam for the starting crack then sling a tree.
NOTE optional hard to place orange tcu between bolts 2 and 3

Not recommended, awful rotten kitty litter granite. The first few bolts are a lot fun, but the upper section is kitty litter and next to impossible to find feet that will hold without skating out. Mar 25, 2012
Nice...I had to stand on a bolt though as well! Apr 15, 2010

If you sling the tree, sling long and clip the 1st bolt long otherwise rope drag will kill you. Expect some grit, some grunge, and some fun off balance moves. Nov 7, 2009

Stepped on a bolt!?!?, think yourself lucky you did not fall on it, who knows what might have happened.
Glad you liked the rte, good to meet you and your mate. Oct 20, 2009
Nice job on this route.....Andy......climbed it today sorry I had to step on one of your bolts, hope its OK. Great location for a quick jaunt close to the road recommend it.....steve Oct 19, 2009
Small tcu helps at the beginning but doesn't help the rope drag for the crux. That's a pretty cool arete feature up there. Oct 4, 2009

Thankyou, oh wise man, keeper of the crags.
Yeah, I forgot a 60m is a bit of a stretch.

2 stars out of 4?, you truly are a hard man to please. Jun 28, 2009
nice job, gentlemen. i'd recommend a 70m to get down from the anchors! s Jun 27, 2009
