Description

Excellent cobble climbing for the area, and reminds one of Maple.
Pitch #1: A cruxy, but well protected start climbs past holes, pockets, and solid protruding cobbles passing a smooth upper band to a three bolt belay. 5.9, 15-17m.

Location

This is in Bear Hollow in a north south running canyon just west of the Dry Wall. This West facing wall can be best in the mornings during the hot months.

The parking is just past some shrubbery about 75m north of the frontage road and both it and the climbing offers some seclusion...more so than Dry Wall.

Unfortunately, this seclusion does lend itself to camping by non climbers who have tended to trash the area and shoot up the place. Toilet paper can pretty easily be stowed in a plastic bag and disposed of properly. Please come prepared for lugging out some of the trash and aim to leave it better than you find it. You will be appreciated:)!
From the parking and camping fire pit, walk 1 minute up the short west facing hillside to a blackish water streak of the left wall, it is the only route on the wall (until now) with glue in bolts. The exact location and GPS for the route is 41° 0'6.16"N, 111°23'31.73"W

[Hide Comment] The exact GPS Coordinates for Maple Jones using the WGS84 datum is N41°00'06.2" W111°23'31.8" This is the bottom of Maple Jones. The other coordinates in the beta are taken from Google Earth. The route is on the right wall looking up the canyon and is straight up the hill from where you cross the stream. Jul 1, 2009
[Hide Comment] Visited area last night. Got on two of the harder routes right and bailed. This route is real fun. Note, it is the route farthest to the North (left). I counted 6 additional chains and bolt lines south (right) on the taller part of the cliff. Sep 21, 2011

[Hide Comment] Fun easy route. This one and the ones to the right all feel somewhat the same in terms of types of holds and difficulty, but this one is probably the most sustained, as in, you start on the ground rather than on the large ledge, and avoid some of the larger huecos. Oct 24, 2023
