Carhartt Crack

5.9 R, Trad, 110 ft (33 m),  Avg: 3 from 1 vote
FA: Ryan Curry and Mark Bauer
California > Lake Tahoe > Carson Pass Hig… > Woodfords Canyon > Fortress > 9 - Far East

Description

Fans of fat cracks will appreciate this unique chimney experience. Climb an easy block to the base of the void. Squirm, wiggle, and wedge your way upwards, placing pro in horizontals and flakes. Commit to unprotectable chimneying to gain a double crack through a bulge. Pull the bulge to a hand crack that shoots straight up. Easier climbing with a couple of trickier moves lead to a two-bolt anchor.

Location

Carhartt Crack is hidden from view on the approach. Find the large gully on the eastern side of the Woodford's main areas. Look for cairns on the far side of the gully uphill from where you enter the gully from the traverse. Rap in from the two-bolt anchor that is located above a large slanting ledge.

Protection

Doubles to 2", one 3". Slings.
