Pass Required Details
Make sure you check with rangers before climbing the falls. You do not need a special permit but they appreciate it if you let them know you plan to climb. You will also need a MN state parks annual or daily pass to park your vehicle (mandatory.)
DescriptionThe structure of this waterfall will vary almost every time you see it. It typically thaws and refreezes numerous times over the course of the Minnesota winter. At the start of this season (Jan. '09) it was one pillar and now it is late February and it covers the whole face like the water runs during the summer.
ProtectionRangers informed me that using the bridge as an anchor is okay with them (2009). Bring very long webbing and just use the bridge if you are going to TR it, or there are a couple of trees closer to the edge you may be able to use. Otherwise, ice screws.
The falls would be a short lead climb.
