The crux comes right away. The groove you fight up IS gruesome. If you can figure it out, you'll be warmed up for the steep and easier (but sustained) climbing above. Don't worry if the start stops you, you can avoid the crux on the left and move back to the 2nd bolt. This brings the overall difficulty down into the 10 range.


This route is just left of Winter Warmer.


11 bolts, 3 bolt anchor with hooks.


Don't know where the name Pass the Basalt came from. But I am glad that someone has a taste for obscure routes. 12a sounds OK. Mar 13, 2010
Anyone have beta for this thing? I was getting a kneebar with a high right foot with knee torqued into the lower part of the dihedral. Wasn't able to move much past.... Jan 18, 2015
