Description

This routes looks easy from the ground. It is not. What appears to be a featured and not-so-steep undertaking is actually a series of hard mantles followed by a technical and footwork intensive crux. The movement is excellent and varied, as is the the position. Very well bolted.

Location

Faces the parking lot on the Solo Boulder. Located on the blunt arete closest to the Split Rocks. Space Lichen is easily recognizable by the large, horizontal flake which cleaves the bottom of the route. Begin by traversing the flake and standing on it to clip the first bolt.

Protection

5 bolts and rappel anchors. A #4 or #5 camalot is comforting but probably unnecessary for the entry moves.

45 feet, really? Seemed longer. Perhaps due to the patient nature of the route... I spent a good deal of time searching for the right crystal at almost every move.

Well bolted hard routes are somewhat rare among the many slabs and faces at erock. Kingdom of Zilch, however, offers a good handful. This is a great one. I can't speak to the grade (I'm no good at that), but I did not think it was easy. Clip your toenails & watch out for the tree around the upper bolts. No gear required on this route. Mar 20, 2016

A storm a few weeks ago resulted in the big tree falling and a now there is a new batch of broken holds. Definitely different and maybe harder now. Oct 2, 2018
