Fragile Sandstone: Don't Climb Wet Rock Details
Kelly Canyon is a sandstone climbing area and the rock is very fragile when wet. Be aware of recent weather and ask a local if you are unsure of conditions. Do not climb for at least a day following rainfall. Do not climb on rock that is visibly moist or seeping.
DescriptionA classic sandstone layback, the quintessential Kelly Canyon moderate. Follow the left-facing rail to its terminus at the V-groove near the top of the wall, then press out the cruxy sloping mantel. An alternate start to the right, climbing through the obvious pockets, is a bit harder.
For a four-star experience, be sure to brush the topout in advance.
