Whipping Post is a very long pitch of sustained climbing! It has standard issue Telluride conglomerate the whole way as you roll through several small overhangs and cruxes. It is one of the best pitches on the pipeline.

This is the first route to the climber's left (west) of Ame's Way on the long face.

15 bolts to anchors. With a 70m rope, you can rappel to the 1st bolt and downclimb from there. You need 2 ropes to reach the ground.

This is a standout line. There are probably no moves harder than mid-5.10, but the climbing is sustained and steep for 125 feet. I thought the route to the left, Whip or Will (5.11-), was harder.

A 70m rope works fine, but don't downclimb from the first bolt as suggested above. Lower the leader to the ledge system in the corner to the right (at the start of Ame's Way), and untie there. It's a short 4th class downclimb from there. Knot the end of your rope! Aug 22, 2016
