Description

Crux is between the 2nd and 3rd bolts. This is some fun slab climbing, not nearly as hard as its neighbor Afternoon Delight. After you reach the anchors you can pull over the ledge and continue up to some manky iron to belay and go up to Stannards.

Location

This route is directly left of Afternoon Delight and right of Stairway to Heaven.

Protection

Small cams can be used in the flake before getting to the first bolt. You can use optional cams after the last bolt. But the climbing is easy. There are fixed anchors at the top.

The first bolt for this route is about 30 feet off the deck and can be clipped from a prominent ledge that runs just below that level. There are a couple ways of getting to the ledge that aren't that sketchy, but in general it's a bad start to the route. It only gets worse from there - the first bolt is far to the right of the actual climbing, which starts on top of the prominent flake (itself quite sketchy, that thing makes all sorts of scary noises and is going to come off one day). You have to do some not-very-secure slab moves to get to the second bolt. Any fall here would have you breaking your ankles on the large flake then swinging to the right under the last bolt. I ended up just leaving a bail biner then lowering off the first bolt. Not worth the risk.

There are also two bolted routes in between Stairway to Heaven and this route, but I think they only go up to the second bolt. Jul 15, 2020
