Mike's Crack

5.5, Trad, TR, 75 ft (23 m),  Avg: 1.4 from 40 votes
FA: Dave Belton, Barry Belton
N Carolina > 3. Piedmont Region > Crowders Mountain > Main Climbing A… > 01. Practice Wall

Description

This route starts easy, but gets harder than the 5.5 rating suggests. The crack is easy, but the move out to the face can prove difficult (especially if committed to the crack). Not a bad route.

Location

The route is a left facing dihedral-type-thing. It's a big crack toward the right side of the practice wall.

Protection

Easily top-roped. Big gear for the bottom, smaller for the top (if you want to lead).

[Hide Comment] FA was Dave and Barry Belton. Named after Mike Smith, a Crowders fixture "back in the day". Aug 1, 2008

[Hide Comment] I think some holds have fallen off, which make it more of a 5.7. Not fun for a beginner trad leader. Jun 6, 2013
[Hide Comment] To set up a top rope for this route sling the tree between the bolts for The Wall and So it Goes. I initially set my anchor on the bolts and so we ended up just climbing the other route before resetting the anchor. Ah well, as they say "So it Goes". Oct 28, 2017
