Access Issue: Manitou River Ice climbs closed Details
Until further notice, ice climbing along the Manitou River is closed. The MCA, Access Fund, State Parks, local conservation officers, and the DNR are working together to determine the best path forward. Accessing the river from the highway requires crossing private land and may constitute criminal trespass. The land owners have demonstrated very clearly their intent to keep people off their land with signage and fencing. It will be important for us as a climbing community to respect their wishes. We wish to work with the land owners to regain access. For questions and concerns, please contact Lucas Kramer at firstname.lastname@example.org.
A thin pencil touches the rock at about 3 places on its fall from the rock band of the rim of the canyon. Otherwise, it hangs free from the face. Follow it, delicatley, sometimes using edges and ice blobs on the face if needed, to the final rock headwall and pull through to top. If it's fat enough to lead, stop at ice and V-thread down.
