Description Suggest change

This is a good beginner lead/TR. At 7,000' elevation and protected from direct sunlight, the ice forms early in the season.

Location Suggest change

Access this climb from the Aspen Grove trailhead which is located a couple of miles past the Sundance ski resort up Provo Canyon. Hike less than a mile up the Timpanogos trail to the second water fall.

Here are photos of the area in spring conditions here and here.

Protection Suggest change

Protect with a few ice screws. There are bushes above this route that can be used for TR. Bring some slings and an extra rope to extend from the bushes to the top of the route.

Hazards Suggest change

Second Falls is located at the bottom of Primrose Cirque on the east side of Mt. Timpanogos. In winter the locals call this “Avalanche Alley” for good reason. Early season climbing is best as avalanche debris often covers the entire falls later in the season.
