Scottish Wanna Be Gully

WI3, Trad, Ice, 45 ft (14 m),  Avg: 1 from 1 vote
FA: Scott Beguin
New Mexico > Los Alamos & Wh… > Los Alamos Crags > Mitchell Trail… > Clifty

Description

This is a moderate line in a good season and offers a taste of Northern New Mexico Rotten Ice. The crux is in the first 25 feet pulling out a short curtain over a bulge. Sometimes the rock feels more solid than the ice. Get it early because the sun comes quick. The crux might even be getting any trustable gear. This is a mental more than a physical challenge, but entertaining nevertheless.

Location

This rout is located about 150 yards north of Thanksgiving Rock. The route is visible when it is in, to the right if you are going up Mitchell Trail. Scramble off to the right once you hit the top. This will put you back at the bottom of the route.

Protection

stoppers, cams to 3", a couple of 11cm ice screws, screamers, and a few trad runners. Use creative natural anchors at the top of the gully.
