Center Ice Pillar

Warning Access Issue: Private property. DetailsDrop down

Description

Most awesome WI5 ice line available in Minnesota. The climb has roughly two sections. The lower is a thick pillar of pumpy WI5 ice. The climbing varies depending which side of the pillar is climbed. Little rest is available between the two sections. Second section is a thin smooth pillar leading to the top anchors. Ensure the ice is solid and the pillar isn't detached before climbing this one. If the top isn't in, it's possible to traverse left from the base of it and rap.

It is possible that the Center Pillar has some original name. If you happen to know what it is, please let me know and I will change the description.

Location

The center and most prominent of the three ice falls.

Protection

ice screws

[Hide Comment] No, it tops out in someone's backyard. Dec 25, 2009
[Hide Comment] Didn't come in this year at all. I hear the open circuit geo-thermal heating system that feeds the climb has been updated/capped. Apr 10, 2011
